Racing / Stunting / Careless Driving

If you are travelling at a speed of 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit you may be charged with stunt driving or racing. In the event that you are charged with racing it is important to note that the officer does not have to prove that you were actively involved in a race with another vehicle.

When you are charged with stunt driving your license will be suspended on the spot for 7 days and your vehicle will be impounded on the spot for 7 days. The owner will be responsible for all costs associated with the suspension and impounding process. Commercial and rental vehicles are not exempt from impoundment.

In addition to the immediate penalties the charge of stunt driving or racing carries charges which include but are not limited to:

• Minimum 2,000 dollar fine
• 6 demerit points
• License suspension for up to 2 years for first offence
• License suspension for up to 10 years for second offences
• Imprisonment for a term last no more than 6 months
